About MuddyVarium

"A quiet act of creation—a place where hand and mind meet, and making becomes meditation."

The Artist

Founded by Gladys Hirsch, MuddyVarium emerged from a deep connection to nature and a commitment to mindful creation. Hirsch began working with clay in 2005, developing pottery as a means to transform her observations of the natural world into tangible artworks.

Artistic Philosophy

Her work draws inspiration from natural details encountered while exploring cities, tide pools, ocean floors, and rainforests. Each piece reflects these encounters, transforming organic textures and forms into ceramic art.

"My work is a reflection of how I experience the world. I hope it encourages a deeper connection to the beauty that surrounds us." — Gladys Hirsch

The Process

MuddyVarium emphasizes slowness, sustainability, and the tactile qualities of clay. Each piece is handcrafted, connecting to centuries-old pottery traditions while exploring contemporary forms and techniques.

Working primarily with ceramic materials, the studio creates functional and sculptural pieces that invite touch and contemplation. The process itself becomes a meditation, allowing the material to guide the final form.
